At the end of September 2023 I had the opportunity to partake in my very first photography day tour in New Zealand.
I had been sceptical for a while about whether I should book a tour or not but was convinced by some fellow photography friends to give it a go.
I was not sure why I was unsure at first but Glen of Glen Howey Photography soon put any concerns or questions I had to bed.
I decide to do the full day tour where we went to Glenorchy for Sunrise and Skippers Canyon for Sunset, with a break in between which ended up being a god send, as many that know me, know I am not a morning person and getting picked up at 4.30am had me questioning my life choices.
Dragging my sorry butt out of bed was definitely worth the effort, we arrived at the Glenorchy jetty just in time to set up our tripods and start shooting.
To watch and capture the sun as it started to touch the tip of the snow capped mountains was just amazing and I must put a shout out to Glen for being my model for what could be seen as the shot you have to take on the jetty, with its lonely light that seemed to be put there for this exact purpose.
The Skippers Canyon though different from the views of Glenorchy it certainly did not disappoint.
The road through the Canyon did leave me feeling a bit uneasy as heights are not my friend and with the road being virtually a width of the car, there is not much room for mistakes.
Putting my fears aside and having Glen take me along the road very safely, it was worth going off the main road to be able to capture the true beauty that is for the taking.
I would like to finally thank Glen for taking me on this tour and proving that they are a worthwhile investment to not only improve your photography but gain some insights to the local area in which you are in.
